Divini Rae: Surviving the Chaos of Life through Yoga – Part 1
What is Yoga anyway? Yoga is an ancient practice that helps create a sense of union in body, mind, and spirit.
We are born yogis. As babies we were all able to pull our toes up by our ears and laugh about it. Then we aged, got injured, and began carrying stress in all areas of our bodies.
In short, we lost our balance.
I was seriously out of balance when I started practicing yoga four years ago. I was carrying 25lbs of post pregnancy “baby weight” from the birth of my first child, and felt tired, sluggish, and depressed. I was seriously out of shape and feeling terrible mentally, spiritually and physically.
A friend of mine suggested I try yoga, and I joined her for a hot yoga class. I had no idea the class she attended was an advanced class, which is probably a good thing so that I didn’t psych myself out of going. Instead, I quickly felt a fast and deep connection to yoga. I began to notice amazing and positive improvements in the state of my mind and body – and I’ve been hooked ever since. Along with maintaining a clean and healthy diet, I find that my yoga practice helps in other areas too. The weight and cellulite come off faster, and it helps me maintain a peaceful, balanced and cheerful attitude as it relieves anxiety and stress.
I practice power yoga at least once a week, but I consider yoga to be part of my daily life, because after awhile you no longer just practice yoga — you live it.
